Dorothy Forrest

Born 1984, Inverness, Scotland

Dorothy Forrest was born in 1984 in Inverness, Scotland, and has spent the better part of two decades developing a practice rooted in the tension between landscape and memory. Working primarily in oil on linen, she builds up surfaces through repeated veiling and erasure — thin atmospheric glazes that accumulate into something simultaneously ancient and immediate.

Her work draws on the light conditions and geology of the Scottish Highlands while resisting straightforward representation. Forms dissolve at their edges, skies bleed into earth, and the horizon — a recurring motif — becomes a site of threshold rather than division. Forrest has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe and is held in several private and institutional collections.
